As we officially enter our 21 days of fasting and prayer, we welcome your participation and devotion over these next few weeks. While it will be a new experience for some and likely physically challenging for all, the spiritual benefits are undeniable.
Each day a new devotional will be posted to provide instruction, guidance and encouragement to help you on this fast. Posts will be added one day in advance to prepare you for what’s next,
In case you missed it, yesterday’s post highlighted the discipline of Fasting and why it’s essential. Today, we will explore the Discipline of Prayer.
Prayer is more than speaking words to God. It is a spiritual discipline—a consistent practice that trains the heart to live in constant dependence on God. Discipline in prayer turns occasional conversation into continual communion.
1. Prayer Trains Dependence
A disciplined prayer life teaches us that we are not self-sufficient. Consistency in prayer declares, “I need You, Lord.”
“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
2. Prayer Aligns Our Will With God’s Will
The more we pray, the more our desires are shaped by His desires.
“Not my will, but Yours be done.” — Luke 22:42
3. Prayer Builds Spiritual Endurance
Consistent prayer strengthens faith over time. Answers may delay, but discipline keeps us steadfast.
“Men ought always to pray and not lose heart.” — Luke 18:1
4. Prayer Sharpens Spiritual Awareness
Prayer opens our eyes to divine direction, conviction, and wisdom.
“Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things.” — Jeremiah 33:3
5. Prayer Invites Divine Intervention
Throughout Scripture, disciplined prayer precedes miracles, deliverance, and revival.
(Elijah – 1 Kings 18, Daniel – Daniel 6, The Early Church – Acts 4)
In Simple Terms:
Prayer is not just a request line. It is a relationship line.
Discipline in prayer says: “I will show up to meet God, even when I don’t feel like it.
A prayerless life is a powerless life.
A disciplined prayer life is a directed life.
May you remain steadfast in fasting and prayer over these weeks ahead. Remember, you are not alone
Stay strong,
